Lorraine Schneider
Los Angeles artist Lorraine Schneider donated the use of “Primer”, an illustration of a sunflower on a yellow background amid the slogan "War is not healthy for children and other living things”, to Another Mother for Peace (AMP) for a Mother's Day peace card. AMP was founded in 1967 by Barbara Avedon, a former writer for The Donna Reed Show who would later co-create the series Cagney and Lacey. The Mother’s Day card was sent in opposition to the Vietnam War to President Lyndon B. Johnson and members of Congress in 1967. By May 1967, 200,000 cards had been sent. This message became very popular and was reprinted on bumper stickers, cards, pendants, and posters such as this one. Getty Images has a photograph by Robert Altman of this poster being held by a young girl in an anti-war rally in San Francisco in 1969.
