Edwin Anthony Cadogan (1908-1983) was born in San Francisco and belonged to the Lucas family for whom Lucas Valley in Marin County is named. He studied at Marin Jr. College and was active in the local art scene and a resident of Berkeley during the 1930s. He was studying in the atelier of S. W. Hayter in Paris at the outbreak of WWII. During the war he served in the Phillipines as a Seabee. He received his B.A. degree from San Francisco State University (1947) and M.F.A. degree from the CCAC (1950). From 1947 he headed the art department at College of Marin where Cadogan Hall is named in his honor.
