Arrah Lee Gaul
Arrah Lee Gaul (1883-1980) was born in Lancaster County and attended the Philadelphia School of Design for Women (now Moore College of Art). She studied with Elliott Dangerfield and Henry B. Snell in Philadelphia and with Charles Guerin in Paris. She exhibited frequently, including at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design in New York , the Paris Salon, and the Beaux Arts Gallery in London.
Arrah was one of the founding members of the group of women artists known as the Philadelphia Ten and returned to teach at Moore College of Art becoming the head of the art education department. She traveled extensively, and completed many paintings during her travels through Europe, Africa and Asia as well as within the United States.
